移民局数据显示，自澳洲联邦政府2012年推出188C重大投资者签证(SIV)投资移民项目以来，该签证的申请和签发数量一直都在持续增长。截止到2015年1月31日，移民局共签发了651份SIV签证，2013-14财年签发出282份。

相比其他投资移民签证类别，188C签证具有多项优势，不仅审批快捷，而且条件也相对宽松，不需要通过商业移民打分测试，也无需语言能力和商业背景要求，只要在澳洲投资500万澳元于政府债券、基金及非上市公司股权，维持投资并持有188C签证4年后，即可申请888永居签证。除此之外，相较于其他移民类别，“重大投资者签证”还缩短了投资者的硬性居住要求，平均每年在澳洲住满40天，或副申请人(配偶)每年在澳洲居住满180天(该规定将从2015年7月1日起正式实施)，即可完成“重大投资者签证”的居住时间要求。

另外从澳洲各州的申请数据来看，维多利亚州吸引了最多的投资，迄今维州收到1071份EOI （Expression of Interest-申请意愿），已签发371份SIV签证；次之是新南威尔士州，收到679份EOI，签发出213份签证。
